Hello! I was directed to the Ennistymon parish site from other helpers at Ireland XO. I am looking for any information you may be able to provide about my great great grandfather Martin (Francis?) Nagle and his wife Delia Maloney Nagle. They were married in Providence, Rhode Island, USA in October 1894. I believe Martin was born to Patrick Nagle and Mary Geherty/Garricky/Garrity of Clare. On their marriage document, Delia's parents are listed as John Maloney and Bridget Devitt. Martin was likely born around 1873 and Delia around 1868 according to my best estimates. Very grateful for your help.

Welcome back!
Below is the 1873 baptismal record for Martin. I could not find a baptismal or birth record for Delia.

Thank you SO much for your quick reply and help! I don't mean to be greedy, but since Martin was born in Ennistymon, is there any chance of finding Mary Geraghty or Patrick Neagle's baptism records from the same parish? I am not really sure of how to best proceed with research in Irish records from here across the pond. Maybe searching for their marriage record would be more fruitful because it would list the sets of their parents? Either way, thank you for what you have already done for me.

Unfortunately, baptismal records for that parish start in 1870. Here is a link to the parish register. Not sure when marriages start. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0621 I did find a civil marriage index record and Patrick and Mary were married in 1867. You would have to write to the General Register Office for a copy of the record which would cost around 4 euros. The record would only show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom. If you need instructions, please let me know.

Hello Roger,
Yes, please share the instructions for ordering the actual marriage record for Mary and Patrick. I am not sure how to pay in euros since I live in the US, but hopefully it is not a difficult process.
Thanks for your help,
Kerrin

Go to this link https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx print it out to the best of you ability and include the info from the index record: registration district, volume and page number plus the year. Make sure you ask for a copy only. You have to mail the request to Ireland (address provided when you print the form). You can ask GRO to e-mail the copy back. I provide a credit card number on the form. They will do the conversion probably will cost somewhere between $5-6 There may also be a small foreign transaction fee.

Hello Roger,
Well, it has taken me three years to the exact date, but I followed your advice to write for the marriage record and today I received an electronic copy. It's the record of Patrick Neagle and Mary Geraghty of Ennistymon (July 17, 1867). Patrick's father is Richard Neagle and Mary's is John Geraghty. These are definitely my ancestors because they are confirmed as parents to Martin Neagle (Nagle) my 2nd great grandfather by his birth certificate, which you've generously shared with me.
The marriage certificate lists Patrick and Mary as servants and Richard and John as "Laborers" - not very specific. Witnesses names are hard to read but appear to be Michael Cassidy and Bridget Friel? These may be close friends or relatives of the family.
My question for you is if I might be able to further back on this side at all? I think I read that the Civil Registration for Marriage Index starts at 1845. If Richard and John are at least 20 years older than their children, they may have married around 1845-1847, but it's such a close call. I don't have a clue about their spouses names, so I am not sure if I would be able to confirm my line with confidence beyond what I have. Open to any suggestions you may be able to provide.
Thanks for your help,
Kerrin

Kerrin:
Only non-Catholic marriages were civilly registered from 1845-1863. Starting 1864, all marriages were civilly registered. So you won't find a civil marriage record for Richard Neagle or John Geraghty. Another problem is that Ennistymon RC records start in 1870.
