I am looking for any information on the decendents of Michael McNamara and Winefred Gallagher who either lived in Feakle, Scarriff or Tulla- They were most likely married around 1860- Michael had relatives in Feakle but their daughter Katherine, who arrived in the US in about 1886, told her children they were from Scarriff. Any iformation would be greatlyappreciated.

  • Hi Andi:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.

Yes, there was a family of Michael McNamara & Winifred Gallagher.

The births appear to be registered in the Tulla Registration District.  It is possible that they were baptised in O'Callaghan's Mills.  There isn't any baptism record for them in the Tulla parish register that I could find.  If you go into www.irishgenealogy.ie, you will be able to order the birth certs for them.

If you want to email me, please do at:  tulla@irelandxo.com

    Happy St. Patrick's Day!

    Jane.

  • Hello Jane,

I wanted to let you know that I got a copy of my great grandmother's birth registration (Kate McNamara- daughter of Michael McNamara and Winefred Gallagher) and it had some good information on it. I found out that she lived in the townsland of Annaghneal and that her father was a farmer. With this information I was able to find her baptismal record in the Kilnoe Parish church records as well as the records of her siblings, All of her sisters went to Chicago with her. Her brothers Michael, John and Stephen are listed as farmers in Annaghneal in the 1901 census but her brother Stephen left and went to Chicago some time after that but before 1910. I found his marriage and death records for Chicago and information about his daughter. I do not know what happened to Michael and John. I could not find them in the 1911 Census. I also found only one McNamara farmer in Annaghneal in the 1855 Griffin's Valuation- a Thomas McNamara. From other information I have found I believe that was my great grandmother's uncle or grandfather. I also believe she (Kate McNamara) had an Uncle Timothy who may have married a Katherine Moroney, I got this information from a very strong DNA match I have from 23andme. His marriage records and children's baptismal records are in the parish of Feakle. I also know that they were realted to the Michael McNamara's and Catherine O'Donnell's of Feakle. I actually met their granddaughter several years ago and she is the one who gave us some basic information about my great grandmother's family. They lived near each other in Chicago.

I have now joined the Kilnoe parish  community also.

Again, thank you so much for all your help. If you come across anything else, I would  love to hear about it.

    Very Sincerely,

    Andrea
