I'm not sure where in Ireland my Maloney/Murray ancestors are from, but I'm looking for information on my gggrandfather, Denis Maloney, ( this is the spelling his ancestors used in America). He married a Margaret Murray and had at least 2 children, a son, Peter, my ggrandfather, born about July 1, 1845 and a daughter Mary, born about 1849.That's all the information about Ireland I have on my gg grandparents. Peter came to America through New York about 1862, possibly from Galway. Mary also came to America, not sure when and if she came with Peter. They both settled in Boston. Peter married a Sarah Gleason/Gleeson about 1863, and had 10 children; Denis, Joseph, Thomas, Peter, Mary, Sarah, Michael, Richard, William and Stephen, between 1868 and 1883. They finally settled in Charlestown across the bay from Boston, Massachusetts. Mary A Maloney married a William Goodwin. They had 2 children; Mary Elizabeth and Margaret (Maggie).
I found a Denis Malony in Griffiths Valuation in Caherogan, Kilfarboy, Ennistimon, Ibrickan, County Clare. There is also a Patrick Murray listed as well in this townland. Could this Patrick Murray be Margaret's father / brother? In the 1901 census for this area Maloney's are listed but I can't make a connection.
Thanks for all your help.

Hi Jane -
The Clare County Library is an excellent resource try:
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm
Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.
Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land the family may have owned (as it usually passed on to a relation).
You can BROWSE information/records availibility/sources for County Clare and Ireland here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.
Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,

Thank you for your email Brid. I have been working on this project for about 15 years, but I have had no results for this side of my family. I still can't find my Maloney/Moloney/Molony - Murray relatives in Ireland. My ggrandfather, Peter Maloney's naturalization records in Boston say he is from Galway somewhere, but since I have had no luck I thought I would try othe counties where I found Murray's and Maloneys, either in Griffiths Valuation, Tithe Apploment Books and the 1901 and 1911 census of Ireland.
I was in on the very beginning of this website as my husband's cousin lives in Fohenagh and knows Paula Kennedy. I've been in touch with her several times but no one seems to have any results for me. It's been so frustrating! I was sure this site was going to be the answer, but I know I must be more patient.
Everthing I know about my family has been posted.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jane

Hi Jane,
Just keeping you up to date. I am currently digitising the parish records for the Kilfarboy area and this is taking a lot longer that i had hoped, due to poor quaity of ink on the original documents etc. I have a number of families of Moloneys from this parish and also Murrays. I am searching for any Denis reference that i may be able to find. I also know that many emigrants sailed from Galway in the earlier years and in later years tended to go from Queenstown in Cork. There was an emmigration check for ill or infirm people at Lahinch (about 5 mies from Miltown Malbay - Kilfarboy parish in years gone by at which some prospective emmigrants were turned back. These people were intended to sail from Galway). This would be a big leap though without further confirmation that they were from Clare.
