1814 - 1839 marriages in Killaloe Diocese - where to find

I went into Find My Past and saw the same record. I can only surmise that the Diocese of Killaloe required their parishes to report all marriages centrally and that later the actual registers for the parishes were either lost or discarded. Let me contact one of our parish liaisons in Co. Clare to see if she has more background on this file.

These Marriage Licence Bonds only survive as an index. To locate a possible marriage you would probably have to know where they lived at the time, i.e. which town or parish, so you could check if records are available. In the 1840s there were just under 70 Church of Ireland parishes in the Diocese covering most of Co. Clare and also parts of several other counties i.e. Tipperary, King's (Offaly), Limerick etc.

As Shane correctly stated, these are COI indexes.  It might be worth taking a look at the Clare Library for some of the entries under the Griffith's Valuation (1855) or the Tithe Applotment Books (1824-37) to see if the names are there.  I do know that Ensko was a name around Ennis, so it is quite possible that that may be the residence. 

The RCB  is intending on putting a number of records online but this has not been done as yet.  However, if you again check the Clare Library website under the GEnealogy tab and within the donated material (Births, Baptisms, Marriages, etc.) you will find that a number of people have voluntarily transcribed COI parish records.  These are also worth a look.  I will take a look myself and see what I can come up with for you, and post on this thread.

Hi again Kealey:

Just took a quick look at the Census of Ireland for 1901 and interestingly enough the surname Ensko (17 listings) are all Roman Catholics.  However, the surname Enscoe or Ens-coe are Church of Ireland.  I have copied the COI listings (2) for you. 

It might be worth taking a further look at these two entries and tracing back.
