Clune and Curneen families

We have several very good volunteers here on the site who have a lot of good local knowledge about the Killaloe area and I'm sure that they will be able to reply to your post in the next few days. 

In the meantime, if you have not already done so, you should take a look at the microfilmed registers for Killaloe that are online through the National Library of Ireland at this link below:

Another great online resource is the Clare Library website which is always worth a look due to the large number of resources that they have.  Below is the link for what is available in Killaloe:

I believe that one of our volunteers has transcribed the parish registers so hopefully he may have more information to share with you.  There is also a very good book on Killaloe by Sean Kierse which is available for sale locally.  It may be possible to try to purchase that as I know his daughter and if you would like to get a copy, please email me at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com.

I also have Clunes in my own family some of whom emigrated to Australia, so I have an interest in your research!

Nice hear of another Killaloe family.

With respect I have published my extensive database transcription which is available to downloan with the disclaimer and copyright usage it is available from here:

My work on Killaloe is crossed referened to the fabulous works of Sean Kierse. I have had a brief look for Clune and Cuneen, however you need to expand the spelling range, because the priests were not consistant in formulating the surnames. See the attachment for some hints of other spellings...

As you are probably aware there are four children:

KILLALOE BAPTISMS

Baptism No

1931 , Vol1, Film 63,  MIchael 

2279, Vol1, Film, 73,  Hannah

2612, Vol1, Film 83,  Mary

3662 Vol 1, Film 111, Margaret 

Note the family and extended family re witness the to the baptisms, all resided directly in the Killaloe township, I would suggest you look up the available Almancs as they were likely to be merchants of that time.

Coincidentally on of my Quinlivan relative also was on the Grand Trianon, arrive in SA, 1855.

Also I have some of my own family who live in Wagga Wagga, the Millman's and Quinlivan's.

Just wanted to say, although it is early days in my current work, I am also transcribing the Cratloe Registers and I am about half way, there are Clunes within that register, and Cratloe is very close, adjacent to Killaloe, like less than 15 mins away.

I am grateful for the help and have found some new information as a result. Does anyone know if Bridget Clune born c 1840 is another child of Martin and Mary Clune? She is born in the right timeframe and also came to Australia but went to Queensland. I found a mention of her on the Clare library emigrants database.
