Madigan family

I searched the 1901 census back and forth throughout Ireland and no signs of a Desmond Madigan. I also searched Joseph and Patrick with no success. Most of the Madigans are in the Clare/Limerick/Tipperary area.

I also looked for civil birth index records for Desmond Madigan but none were located.

I also went on Ancestry.com and found nothing.

I assume your friend does not have the parents names or siblings?

Many thanks for all your efforts. I too have drawn a blank although I am not very au fait with the finer details of searching.

Do you think I could try some of the other parishes for parish records? I have no idea of the geography being from Kent but my friend is sure her father came from County Clare. Does this mean that some records might be in Limerick, which, looks fairly close to me on the general map.

I searched all counties looking for Desmond with no success. There were 1006 Madigans born in Co. Clare from 1864-1958. I went thru the records and only found four males born in 1899: 2 Johns, a Thomas and an Edmond. Any chance your friend got Desmond and Edmond confused?

That sounds possible. She thinks that her father may have changed his name when he ran off to the Uk in 1913. The thinking is that he altered Madigan to Mardigan.  Desmond and Edmond would also be a simple change, easy to pass off as a slip of the pen. I shall be in touch with my friend tomorrow and get back to you
