Sinon Nunan came to Australia around 1853, believed to be unassisted immigrant. Came from Clohanes, Co Clare. Parents Timothy Nunan and Honora Killeen. It is believed he met his wife to be Margaret Cahill off the boat in Melbourne. Margaret came to Melbourne with her siblings Cornelius and Maryann. Parents Patrick Cahill and Mary Sullivan, Also from Clohanes. They were married in Melbourne on Sept 8th 1853.
Family story has it that they named all their houses in Australia "Dunbeg" after the village in Co Clare. The church in Dunbeg and all records within burnt down in 1970s.
We have no information on the family in Ireland on either side. There is a possible grave, Timothy Nunan in Kilnacloghaun cemetery near Dunbeg, which could be Sinon's father. All efforts to find BMD certificates so far have failed.
We know both Sinon and Margaret were literate: Sinon especially so. Named their children: John James, Patrick Edward, Mary, Timothy, Margaret and Honora (twins) Michael, Sinon. All born in Australia.
Variant spelling of the names has made this search more difficult. Any help appreciated.

Mareerule,
A search for a Sinon Nunan/Noonan did not show up in the parish of Killard(Doonbeg).
The parish baptism records are from May 13th 1855, so Sinon's baptism record would not available.
The surname for this family appears to be "Noonan rather than Nunan, base on local records.

In relation to previous Posts: Sinon Nunan was baptised in Kilrush in 1830. Father Tim Nunan and mother Biddy Gavan. No address recorded.
Transcription recorded as "Simon"
In regard to Michael Noonan - Tarmon - Killimer, he died in 1886 aged 80 years. His death was reported by his son-in-law - James Frawley.
James Frawley who was from Doonmore - Killard parish had married his daughter - Margaret - in 1875
James' father - Parick Frawley was an extensive farmer in Doonmore. The 1901 census records the family of James Frawley
in Tarmon, DED Knock - also a Bridget Noonan, mother-in-law aged 90 years - widow - retired farmer.
It is likely that the Nunan/Noonan family in Killimer and those in Killard were related.
Records in Kilrush for births and deaths: Stephen Nunan 1861, died 1866, Michael Nunan 1856, died 1864, Patrick Nunan 1866, died 1868, Mary Nunan died 1868 aged 67 years,
A Margaret Noonan died 1867 aged 100 years.
A Martin Nunan was a baker in Kilrush in 1846 - Slater's Directory.
Hopefully someone has the answer to the origin of the Nunan/Noonan families in West Clare in the early 1800's.

McCoy
