Hi Leo

My GGG Grandfather was Patrick Doolan who married Mary Hynes, Patrick and Mary's first born and only son was John. They immigrated to Australia in 1855 on the Sea Park and had four children with them.  Mary b 1842 Bridget B 1844, Annie b 1846 (My GG Grandmother, who married Michael O'Dea in Marion Sth Aust in 1864)  The Doolans were from County Clare according to Annies marriage certificate,  and the only townland I have found in Clare that had both Doolans and Hynes was a place called Ballanfuntha in Killinaboy.  I am wondering if you have any further information on your ancestors John and James who immigrated to Australia, and if there is possibly a link between the two families.  I am from Victoria in Australia

Hi there Leo & Colleen,

 I also have a Doolan from County Clare. I do not have a lot to go on. In 1987 I had Clare Heritage Centre do some research for me, It appears my Nancy Anne Doolan was born approx 1832-1835, her parents were John Doolan and Mary Fitzgerald of the Kilfenora Parish. Seeing as the Parish did not commence records until 1836 there was no record for her, but according to the Heritage Centre, there were more children then recorded when baptised. They were; Catherine 1836, Michael 1839, Bridget 1842, Michael 1843 (so first one must have passed away) & John 1844. Now the Sponsors for these children were mainly McCarthy's. 

I don't know when or how she arrived in Victoria, Australia, but she married in Ballarat, Victoria in 1857 to John McMahon from County Meath. They went on to have 9 children 1858-1871. They had  land in Learmonth, approx 1865-1871 (which is near Ballarat) which adjoined Michael, James, John, James Snr Doolan & McCarthy's. 

They then moved to the Collingwood, Fitzroy, Northcote area, which is closer to Melbourne, Victoria. I know most of the history from when John & Nancy (later known as Anne), were married. I am interested in when and how & why, she came to Australia. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
