I have ancestors from East Clare who emigrated to the US about 1850. Bridget Magennis and husband Cornelius Noonan lived in Ballymacdonnell in Killuran. Baptismal records exist for their children in O’Callaghan’s Mills RC parish. Some of the McGinnis people from East Clare ended up in Australia as well – more likely spelled McGuiness. Bridget and family settled in Iowa and her brother Daniel (my great-grandfather) settled in Mobile, Alabama. Still working on identifying their parents. I would be happy to hear from others with McGinnis ancestors from Clare.

Hi:
Thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. Have you had a look at the Clare Library website? The link is: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm. There are several volunteers who have transcribed some of the baptism registers there and it might be worth a look. In addition, you might find other useful information with regard to Census data, and Griffith's Valuation data. Let me know if you need further assistance.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Hello Jane,
Thanks for your reply. The Clare Library website is a wonderful resource and I do check back frequently to see what's been added there. I have gained a lot from communicating with others researching the same families, so I'm hoping this might be another avenue for making those connections. We have also explored DNA testing and have Y-DNA results for our McGinnis line in East County Clare. A McGuiness researcher in Australia is an exact match and our common Magennis ancestor was probably living in East Clare in the mid to late 1700's.
Thanks again,
Beth McGinnis Schroeder

I've been continuing to search for the home in Clare of our immigrant ancestor Daniel McGinnis and the names of his parents but with no luck. I've identified many distant DNA cousins in this line living in U.S, AU, NZ and Feakle, Clare. The DNA has been interesting but doesn't help with identifying our common ancestor in East Clare.
I did find a possible marriage record (attached) for a Cornelius Noonan and Bridget from Dromod in Oct 1837 in Kilnoe RC parish and my reason for this post is to ask for opinions on whether it is them or not. The reason I'm not sure is that her surname is given as Linehan and the date is after the 1st baptism in O'Callaghan's Mills. They had 4 children baptised there between 1836 and 1849 with abode listed as Ballymacdonell. So is this marriage record for a different Cornelius Noonan?
