Cussen and Birmingham Family

The 1911 census for Ballyartney had one Cussen family and one Bermingham family. Not sure if the Patrick Cussen age 67 is theson of James and Bridget. An 1846 year of birth would mean age 64 in 1911. Patrick Bermingham could be the son of Thomas Birmingham.

Thanks.  I detected the 1911 for Patrick Cussen and thought it might be also be the son of James.  Have to look further into this.  I will also have to check out the Patrick Bermingham you noted.

Just wanted to provide an update on my Cussen/Bermingham family research for this group.

Roger, I did confirm that the Patrick Cussen, listed in the 1911 Census, was the eldest son of James Cussen.  James Cussen and Bridget Bermingham also had another son, Thomas who was born Jul 1860 (baptised 31 Jul 1860).  I've not found a baptism for either of the daughters, Margaret (about 1851) and Honora (about 1853).

I also confirmed that Thomas Cussen (1883-1954), son of previous named Patrick Cussen, relocated to the US in 1904.  He supposedly meet with an aunt, Susan Lydel, living in Bayonne, NJ, USA. However, I'm still trying to figure out what the family connection is; Cussen or Bermingham.  Thomas was naturalized in Chicago in 1909.  He went on to married Christine Statecny Simanek around 1915, possibly in San Diego, CA before returning to Chicago.  If Susan Lydel is related on the Bermingham side, it might support my suspicion that my 2nd great grandmother, Bridget Bermingham is related to the Bermingham family in Kilrush.  I also suspect that Mary Bermingham, who married Michael McNamara, and Thomas Bermingham, both of Ballyartney, are sister and brother of Bridget.  Further, that the father of my James Cussen was either James (d. 1848) or Thomas (d. abt 1843) Cussen, both from Ballyartney.

My grandfather James McMahon was from Ballyartney. The Bermingham family has a farm that is still a working dairy farm across the road from the home where my grandfather was born and raised.  His name is PJ Bermingham.

The last Patrick Bermingham (1873-1930) I have living in Ballyartney was born to James Bermingham and Sarah Murphy.  He married Mary Morrissey in 1905.  Patrick would be my 2nd cousin 2x removed.  I know this couple had at least 2 children: Sarah (1907-1908) and Thomas J. (1908-1998).

From Griffth's Valuation I know that a Thomas Birmingham, Michael McMahon, John McMahon and James Cushen (my 2nd great grandfather) all lived on adjoining properties in Ballyartney.  Believe it was this Thomas Birmingham who was a brother to Bridget Bermingham who married James Cushen.  Is it possible that the property on which Thomas Birmingham occupied in 1850s is where the current Bermingham family farms?

I hope to plan a trip to Ireland in the next year or so to visit these locations and perhaps meet with some distant cousins.
