I looked at the Kilnoe parish register and it is very strange that all of the baptismal records showed the mother's maiden name except for the Mary Kane record. No explanation other than the priest forgot to annotate the name?

The surname Lydel is unusual and in the mid-19th century there were no head of households with that surname in all of Ireland. The surname Lyttle is a possibility. The name was fairly rare and only found in Ulster province. This site allows you to see where surnames were found in the mid-19th century and Kane was found in many counties including good numbers in Derry, Tyrone and Antrim. http://www.swilson.info/sdist.php  Based on this information, I'm wondering if the couple was from one of the Northern Ireland counties.

As an aside, I could not find a townland called Bohirglass/Boherglass in Co. Clare. Likely it was a local place name that did not become an official townland.

I located a village named Boherglass in Kilnoe civil parish. it's located in Coolready townland and a short distance to the south west of Bodyke - see here (1st edition OSI map, c 1840)

Castlemore Roscommon - I have done my DNA but unsure how to use it to get to this specific great-grandmother other than contacting some of my close matches and sharing genealogy results. I have been slowly doing that but nothing on my Kane/Shea connection yet.

Coolready townland appears on the Tithe records (National Archives), although it's spelt Coolredagh and has been mistranscribed as Coolsedagh. Coolredagh is one the variations listed on the entry for the townland on the placename database (logainm.ie). The Tithe Applotments were a record of people on certain eligible agricultural land and do not include everyone. The entries for this area are dated 1827, and one of the people listed is a John Keane, which is a variation of Kane, so might be a connection to Thaddeus/Thady...

Griffith's Valuation (AskAboutIreland.ie) is dated 1855 for Coolready and there doesn't seem to be any Kane or Keane entries at that time.

Not sure if you used Ancestry or Family Tree DNA. With Ancestry you can look at matches who have made their tree available and see if the surnames match up with Keane/Kane or Lydel. In my experience, less than 25% of matches provide thie tree. Family Tree allows you to compare matches to show which chromosome(s) a match occurs. I do send out e-mails and maintain an Excel file with all my matches, what chromosomes etc. You may also want to look into Gedmatch which is a volunteer run site www.gedmatch.com  Gedmatch allows you to upload your raw DNA data and see if you match with someone who tested with another company (and also uploaded their data).

Roger - your reply was extremely helpful. I did Ancestry but did upload my results to both FamilyTreeDNA and GEDmatch. Putting the results for the best matches among the 3 in a spreadsheet along with the chromosome(s) matched will be a big help in identifying which branch of my tree is represented. I was able to connect with an unknown 2nd cousin on my father's County Monaghan side and found a definite link to a previously unknown relative in Ireland who helped me determine where one family on my maternal side came from.
