In the meantime have you tried looking in civil records for information? Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so you may be able to find Patrick?s birth record. Also if either of them married before they left Ireland you should be able to find their marriage records. If you can find these it would give you a more exact place of origin, which will make your search for information easier. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. So you know their parents? names? If you do you could search for them in Griffith?s Valuation. This is a property valuation survey that was carried out  1848-1864. Although it doesn?t offer any genealogical information it can sometimes be used to tie  person to a specific place.

have you tried looking in the 1901/1911 census records to see if there are any Crowley?s who may be related recorded?  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Also, it may be an idea to look into the boy?s emigration as generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. A good place to start is the US National Archives:

Bless you.  I had just about given up hope of any information on my grandfather, Michael F. Crowley.   His niece was Delia Kelly.  He and my mother, after him,  wrote and sent packages as far back as my mother could remember.     In turn, I wrote to Delia for many years.  In time, several health problems interfered and I ceased writing.

I have information on his cousins, Timothy and Patrick, whose parents are listed on Tim's marriage license as Michael Crowley and Bridget Callinan. All three were born 1862--1866.  I am trying to determine Mike Crowley's parents and any other information  available.

I lean to the idea that Mike sister, Delia's mother, was named Margaret as my aunt arnd I share the name.  Just a idea/hope that I have another small bit of information to add leaves to the family tree.

If you would like some details of the "American Cousins", I'll be happy to share what we have discovered and if you can add any small nugget of information I and my whole family would appreciate.the help!!
