I checked Roots Ireland and a Find My Past RC parish register data base and the only record I can find is an 1847 John McDonnell born to Michael McDonnell and Mary Nelson in the Clonrush/Mountshannon/Whitegate RC parish. See below. Here is a link to the register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0773  This parish is mostly in Co. Clare with a small portion in Co. Galway. Roots transcribed the townland as Kilrateera which is in Inishcaltra parish.

I would treat this record as a lead. There are some parishes in Clare that do not have records back to this period.

Do you have any other information on the family?
