Looking for any information about:

Ann ( Nancy) Carey

John Slattery

They had the following children: Edward D., Michael, Martha, Mary, John, Con, Margaret and James. I believe the last two died of measles.

I think John Sr had a sister named Bridget who emigrated to the US before 1850 and married a man who's name was Michael Cavey. They had a daughter named Mary, who married George Towle and they moved to Nebraska, USA.

The following offspring of Ann & John emigrated to the USA and to Nebraska: Edward D, Michael, Martha, Mary & John. Con married a woman named Bridget and they stayed with his parents in Ireland.

My great grandfather was Edward D. According to the 1900 census, he was born in 1868 and emigrated in 1881.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The family lived in Cloongaheen West townland in Killokennedy civil parish in southeast Co. Clare. I found the 1901 census record for John and Anne. In 1911, John was living with his son Con and was a widower. I found two death index records for an Anne Slattery in the Limerick registration district. (Killokennedy is in the Limerick registration district.) Based on the ages, I would assume that the first record is more likely your Anne Slattery. You would need to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of the record to confirm. Fill out their form, provide the year/quarter of registration, the registration district and the volume and page number.

  • Can I access the 1911 census too? Was Con married to a Bridget? Do you happen to know if there was a measles epidemic of anything around that time? From an old family letter, it stated that James and Margaret died of measles. Maybe Anne did too. Is there a way to find out any more information about this family?

Thanks so much. I'm planning a trip to Ireland and did't want to go until I knew where I was going. : )

  • Colleen:

You can access the 1901 and 1911 censuses at www.nationalarchives.ie  Yes, Con was married to a Bridget. See the link above to the 1911 census record. I can't help with the measles epidemic.

  • Thanks Roger,

I was so excited this morning that I neglected to click on the other link before I replied to your email. Sorry! Now I just have to figure out where they were before 1901 and where they were after 1911.

Thanks again for your speedy help! Sorry also for the numerous replies. I seem to be having a problem with postiing things here.
