Hi I am trying to find the birthplace and parish of my great grandfather, Patrick Flaherty (born c 1825). He arrived in Melbourne Australia in 1855 with his brother Timothy( born c1834). Another brother John O’Flaherty (born c 1828) arrived in Melbourne in 1857. Their parents were John Flaherty and Brigid O’Loughlin. There are a few records in Victoria, birth certificates of Patrick’s children and his death certificate but they have conflicting information. The death certificate says his birth place was Lisdoonvarna, two of his children’s birth certificates puts Patrick’s birthplace as Kilmoon., Most of the documents just say birthplace as Co. Clare.
I hope someone can help.
Regards Pauline

Using Google Maps you will find that there is a Kilmoon near Lisdoonvarna, Co Clare. Kilmoon could easily have been distorted into the name you have. Clare has an enormous number of easy-to-use records online. Google Clare Ireland genealogy resources

Pauline,
My relatives were in East Clare. One thing I have used for clues are the civil registration records to track relatives who stayed in Ireland. I think this is the town you are questioning. Look at the birth records for Flaherty's in this district.
The Civil registrations are free. I have found a lot of information in the death records for those who stayed too.
Here is the link to the record I found. You will need to click you are not a robot and enter your name and click that you agree with the terms. Just wanted to share this tool in case you were not aware of these records.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…; On this record it looks like it lists both those towns you are questioning.

Thanks Rosanna.
I will look at this.
I have gone back to the source and I think it may say Kilmoon which is much closer to Lisdoonvarna, so this maybe the area around which I should concentrate.
