Searching for family of Patrick Shalloe and Ellen Handrahan who immigrated to Quebec, Canada on the Governor in 1848. they arrived on 26 May 1848. They both contracted typhoid fever and died shortly after arrival. The story says they came from Coalmeels, Clare, Ireland. I dont think the name of the town is correct but it could be something that sounds like it. For example OCallaghan Mills, or Coolmeen. Their children, Thomas Shalloe was born about 1835. Patrick was born 20 Oct 1842. Catherine was born about 1843 and John was born about 1844. John also contracted typhoid fever and died 4 Jun 1848. The children arrived on 2 different ships from the parents. Here is the link to the deaths:

Hi Celeste:
I'm a Tulla volunteer which is very close to Ocallaghans Mills. The Shalloe surname was (and still is) in the parish. Have you checked the registers for the Mills? They are at this link and the begin in 1835. You may find the names of some of the children and/or a marriage record for the parents.
If you want to email me directly, I may be able to help you further locally. You can do so via here: tulla@irelandxo.com
All the best,
Jane

Hi Jane
I saw your reply to Celeste. I found your link to O'Callaghans Parish Records very useful but is there a deaths as I could only find Baptisms and Marriages.
Thank you
Gillian

Hi Gillian: there's no deaths although there is a famine death register that I will see if I can find any mention of either family. You can check the graveyard records associated with the parish on the Clare library website. The link that I gave can be used to view the records associated with Clonlwa civil parish which includes both Kilkishen and O'Callaghans Mills. You can also check the Irish Genealogy website which covers births, marriages and deaths from 1864. Any questions, please email me at tulla@irelandxo.com

Thank you Jane for your suggestion to Celeste re checking the O'Callaghan Parish Records. I had been searching for information about my great-grandmother's family -The Connells. I checked the O'Callaghan registers without luck but found the Broadford Baptisms and Marriages Registers. Success! I knew that the family was supposed to be from Fahy near Broadford. I found Mary (Ann) Connell born 1863 and baptismal records for her 8 younger siblings as well as her parents' marriage record in February 1863 - John Connell (Ballymoloney) and Hanorah McNamara (from Snata). As far as I know Mary Ann came alone to Australia in the early 1880s but I would love to know what happened to her siblings. I would also like to know about Ballymoloney which seems to be where the family resided. Does it still exist? How would you find it? Is there any way of finding Baptisms or marriage records in that area prior to 1844? Anne F

Hi Anne:
I'm glad to hear that you had some success. The best thing to do is to go back into the Clare Library website and search for Kilseily and Killuran under the civil parish lists. You will find a lot of online resources for both civil parishes. Broadford is the Catholic parish and it is located within these two civil parishes. You can search Ballymoloney (which does still exist) by using the Census records for 1901 & 1and 911 to see if there are Connell's there. I know a local historian who may be able to offer further assistance, and I can contact him if you find further information. You can also use Griffith's Valuation and inputting Ballymoloney as the townland or place to see what families are there. Let me know how you get on and I will try to assist you further.
All the best,
Jane

Hello Celeste:
My name is Hélène.
Patrick Shalloe and Ellen Handrahan are both my ancestors and when I read your text I thought I was re-reading the message I left on this page a few weeks ago. :)
I had also come to the conclusion that it could be from OCallaghan Mills, Coolmeen or Kilmihil. You seem to have more information than I do, including the dates of birth of Thomas and Patrick.
Given the close age difference between Ellen Handrahan and Thomas, the eldest child (10 years old), I thought he might be from a previous union with Patrick Shalloe (also spelled Shallow, Shalloo).
I am trying to find a link to continue some of the genealogy in Ireland.
You can write me back here,
Hélène
