Hi my 3rd great grandfather is James r8ce (1802-1878) he had 2 daughters Anne and Mary. Mary was born 1845 and married William Bradfield. Anne is my 2nd great grandmother she married in 1861 ballinaboy to Thomas good of littlesilver Bandon. He died in 1867 and she married Edward bird in 1869. There is a death for Anne in 1879 aged 49 but I'm not certain it is her. Edward died in 1903 aged 61 at knocknaglaugh. The good family are church of Ireland and I thought the rices were too but I've found a Samuel rice at gogganshill in 1901 census as roman Catholic. He could be a sibling or relative of Anne's. I would like to know where I can find more links to the family as I don't know who James rice married. Thanks. Regards John in wicklow

Hi John,
I have just seen your post my 3 great(s) grandfather was Samuel Rice (Protestant) who lived at one stage in Mallow, Co Cork, he died on 17th Feb 1869 aged 78 years... I have a little more information but I cannot definitively say they are brothers...
Regards,

Hi John, I found the will of James Rice d.1878 in the National Archives Dublin. He bequeaths all including lands (130acres) of Ballinagrumoolia to his only son George. In 1908 (30 yrs later) George Rice Rathmnacullig applied for grant of probate, the other executor Willian Bardfield d.1904. Sometime after 1908 the occupier of this land changed to Richard Hayne.
1833 Tithe Applotment James Rice Rathmacullig 25 acres, 1838 Mary eldest daughter of George Rice Rathmacullig marries George White Friars Walk. So maybe a sister of James. James died 10 Jan 1878 of heart disease aged 76 yrs, Eliza Rice present at death Brier Hill. Another weird bit George Rice was 58 in 1901 so born 1843, (died 1922 aged 78yrs) cork & ross .ballinhassig.p4795.005.13 12 Feb 1843 George of George Rice and Mary Sweeney (not married).
The Rice's on my side still live in Goggins Hill and tracing the land as in Griffith James Rice Goggins Hill 80 acres went to Robert Rice b.1819 my GGgrandfather then to his son Samuel b.1847 then his son Robert.
This Robert Rice b.1819 also had land in Tulligmore which he sold to a Robert Rice Cahergal in 1894 this confused me for a long time, this Robert was born 2 Feb 1833 to James and Sarah Rice Parish of Inniskenny.
St Nicholas, Cork parish records COI 1819-1844 .. 16 Feb 1833 James Rice Farmer Old Abbey marries Sarah Rice Ballinaboy.
Old Abbey was in the parish of Inniskenny (near Viaduct)
1846 James Rice Iniskenny widower married Anne Wolfe Ballinaboy groom's father Robert Rice
Robert Rice b1833 lived in Cork where he owned several Houses /property and 2 pubs in the Dillions Cross area, he never lived in Tulligmore his sons went to Canada eventually a grandson returned to Tulligmore.
They are connected to Brier Hill in some way as they have a photo of a Tom Rice Fermoy that came from the house in Brier Hill also a hand written note on the marriages of Annie and Mary attached.
I can email you any of these recordsmurchu54

hi murchu, thankyou so much for all this info, that is wonderful! i would like you to email this information you have found.
i have since found george and his wife elizabeth busteed who must have been the informant on james death cert which i have.
i have traced most of george's children. they seemed to have married different people with surname GOOD!
i still dont quite understand how all the people you mention fit together so would like that sorted out so i can better understand it in family tree format!
from what you say i think you mean samuel(b 1847) is son of robert?
correct me if im wrong. i did see the marriage of james rice to sarah rice but havent confirmed that is my line as of yet as anne seems to have been born in 1830, it is now confirmed that the 1879 death is correct for my anne rice. my distant cousin from canada came over this year and she did some searching and found some certs which helped.
thats all for now, its late here.
my email is johntyner2001"at"yahoo.com replace the at with @
regards
John

Hi John, hope all is well, not sure if you have this info about James Rice Brier Hill who died 1878,
24 Feb 1870 James Rice Esq. widower Brier Hill (father's name George Rice) marries Elizabeth Wolfe Coolcraheen House Rosscarbery in the Parish Church of Castle Ventry. James died 1878, Eliza was present at his death and she held a dog licence in Ballynagroomlia 1879-1880. 1901 census; Elizabeth Rice age 75 is living with her sister's family William and Aphra (Wolfe) Shorten at Coolcraheen also there is their father John Wolfe . Elizabeth dies there 31st Oct 1907. This might explain why the probate of James's will happened 30 yrs after his death .murchu54

I am responding to T.McC re Samuel Rice: he is also a gt gt gt grandfather of mine, & I am guessing that you may be a McCormick. My grandmother was a McCormick. Samuel Rice died Feb 17, 1859, at the age of 78 years; his wife Catherine Rice died Jan 26, 1858; they are buried in Mt Jerome Cemetary, south of Dublin, in the John McCormick grave. John McCormick, Methodist, married Eliza/Elizabeth Rice in Buttevant, on Nov 22, 1838. Eliza Rice was born July 4, 1813, & died Feb 6, 1881.
Does this sound like your family too?
