Dear All, I am delighted to join this community I hope all are keeping safe and well during the corona virus. I realise this query is a long shot as I have exhausted all other options for researching this information. I have now searched for my great grand mother's final resting place for years. I know for sure as confirmed by the church who held her funeral and death notice she was buried in Ballintemple Cemetery. I have a vague documented story from my grandfather informing me as a boy he would climb over the cemetery walls to visit his mothers grave. But despite approaching every avenue including the Archive, Undertakers, City Council, Courthouse, talking to extended families members in Cork we have faced the same information that the burial records (re-allocation of plots) have been long since lost for Ballintemple Cemetery. As a last ditch attempt does anyone know if they exist? she has no original headstone we have spent hours scouring the cemetery hoping to find something. Including hiring a research group to help me. But to no avail. Also we can't make the link as to why she was buried in Ballintemple when she was from the City, There is evidence her mother, father, sister, niece and great niece are all with her in the same plot ranging from her fathers death in 1914 to her sisters death in 1943 (death notices and funeral records) but yet all other relatives are in St Joseph's and St Mary's. We would love to find the link as to why Ballintemple was selected for their burial as they never lived in Ballintemple or Blackrock.
Any guidance would be much appreciated, thank you so much for reading this!

  • Hi, I have been asked to look over older queries and must say well done on your efforts. I searched to see if there was a local history group and got hits but nothing that struck me as relevant, they often transcribe headstones etc but they would be good to get non existant ones mind you. I would expect the parish to hold the reocrds if they had a map or register but it is possible they may have been sent to the County or City archives but you would want to ask them and even then they may not be catalogued, other areas are private Facebook groups for the area but again I did not see any when I looked, there is a graveyard page but appears it was opened and the history inserted and that was it.

    Good Luck
