Hello,

does anybody have any association with the above names?  My g grandfather, Jeremiah McCarthy, son of Denis of Killaminogh and Clougheenduane, Templemichael, died in 1884 in Ballintober of heart failure.  He was married to Catherine Callaghan, daughter of Jerry Callaghan of Corran.  Denis' wife was Catherine Lowney or Looney always known as Lily, the Looneys farmed in Clougheenduane.  The Coakleys were cousins and farmed with Jeremiah McCarthy in Garravisoge and Ballintober.  And the Briens and Mahoneys were also related to this family.

  • Dear Bridie

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the long delay in getting back to you.

I hope someone with a connection to the family will be in touch. Have you had a look through some older messages to see if anyone has posted about the name already? You can use the search option at the top of the message board.

    Best wishes

  • Hello Clare,

no, nuffink, zilcho ....  seems that people from the Ballymartle area are few, but it's really Catherine's family, the Callaghans that I would really like to find, we do have lots of information on the other families.  The Callaghans farmed up in Corran, and were also in Kinsale Junction.

  • Hi Bridie

Sometimes weeks and months later people can connect here out of the blue. This morning I had a call from someone who had just noticed a message someone posted in 2013 and wanted me to pass on his contact details. So, you never know...

    Best wishes

  • Hi Bridie

I have quite a number of Lowney ancestors all from Bere Island and Castletownbere.  The National Library of Ireland has now put the Parish Register images on line so it may well be worth you looking in this area of Cork for your Lowney ancestors. They were pretty mobile and many of them went to the USA but mine came on to Australia.  Cheers, Jill in Sydney
