Hello,

I am researching my father's Lambert family,  originally from Bandon.

My 3rd GGparents were James Lambert (born abt 1791 in Bandon, Co. Cork and died 1857 in Lancashire, England). and Margaret (unknown maiden name).

James & Margaret left Ireland between 1826-1833 for Warrington, Lancashire, England. Per the 1851 England Census,  it shows Bandon, Cork as birthplace for both James and Margaret. This is the only information I have to link them to Co. Cork.

My sister Dawn and I are planning our first trip to Ireland this May and we will be visiting Bandon. I am hoping to be able to research more ahead of that time to make the most of our visit there.

Any information on any Lamberts in the Bandon area and/or churches/cemeteries that might hold some type of records or info on our family would be greatly appreciated. We are so looking forward to seeing the home of our ancestors! Thanks in advance.

This is the likely marriage record for your ancestors. I found it on www.irishgenealogy.ie which is a free Irish government site which has records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross and including Bandon. There were no baptismal records with a father named James Lambert. Did they leave for England after the marriage?

  • Roger,

WOW. Thank you so much for looking into this! I estimated the time that they left for England as 1826-33 based on the ages of the three oldest children, Mary (b. 1821) Hannah (b. 1825) and Catherine (b.1826). The England census of 1841 and 1851 show those three as born in Ireland. The younger children, including my 2GGF Patrick were all born in Lancashire after 1833.

I am assuming the three older girls are their children so I am not sure why they would not have baptismal records there unless of course they are a diffferent James & Margaret Lambert, or maybe those girls were baptized in another county, perhaps..?

I am so thankful for your looking into this. I will continue to research this! Many, many thanks.
