Looking for information on Cornelius Bennett and his wife Kate both born in Ireland, he on January 1853 and she on February 1855. They left Ireland on 1874 or 1875 for the US. According to the 1900 US Census the had been married for 25 years. Thank you for any help you provide.

William:
I checked for civil marriage index records and there were only five marriages with a Cornelius Bennett. The best fit is the record below. The marriage was registered in the Cork registration district and there are five possible female spouses. One of them is a Catherine Fitzgerald and I wonder if she is the Kate in your message. It is possible that they were from another part of Ireland and married prior to boarding the ship in Queenstown which is located within the Cork registration district. They also could be from Co. Cork. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. I included instructions below the index record. A marriage record will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living when married.

Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
