Hi There,

 

I am trying to find out whho the parents are of Hugh MACKEY and Sarah MACKEY

Hugh was born 4/8/1817 and Sarah was born 25/5/1820. According to this link below they also had a brother James born 1814.

Both Hugh and Sarah came to New Zezaland about 1840 or so and died here. I am trying to find out if I have the correct date of birth and who their parents were and if there were any other siblings. Any other info would be welcomed. Both death certificates say they were born Donegal.

    Can you clarify the religious denomination for your Mackey ancestors. RC records for that area start too late. The Church of Ireland records start around 1810 but when I check Roots Ireland, they did not have baptismal records for a Hugh/Sarah or James in Killaghtee C of I church.

    As far as I know they were Anglican. Sarah died in  1870 and Hugh died 1898

    Both died in Auckland, New Zealand

    After giving this a break, I have since found out that Sarah and Hugh had a brother named James Mackey born in 1814. 
    Parents names are James Mackey born about 1790 and Elizabeth Cassidy born about 1790. I am not sure when they died.

    They were protestant and lived in Dunkineely. I believe James Mackey (1814) died 1889. James and his parents stayed in the area all their lives. 

    Is there any other infomation out there that I can find please.

  • The 1857 Griffith Valuation head of household listing for Killaghtee shows James Mackey in Urbal so unless his father was also James, likely this is the James who died in 1889.  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/donegal/killaghtee.htm

    Roots Ireland only has Killaghtee Church of Ireland records starting in 1868.
