Trying to trace ancestors of Catherine Carlisle.

From marriage (certificate) to David McKean Motherwell 7th Jan 1885 at Berry St (Pres) Church Belfast:

- she was of full age and a spinster

- father John Carlisle - Labourer.

- Witnesses: William Cuming (sp?) and Martha Young

From 1911 Census (University Street, Belfast) :

- born about 1863 Birth place given as Craigavod Co Down [sic - not Armagh, Craigavon - between Lurgan and Portadown ]

- Craigavod is I believe between Bangor and Holywood on the North coast of Co Down

The 1901 Census lists Kate as born Bangor, Co Down.

(NB Can't find birth record but do find - probable red herring:

    Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

    You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.

    There are some books you might be interested in looking at. There is one by Edward D. Atkinson, called Dromore, an Ulster Diocese, Dundalk: W. Tempest, 1925. This is available at the National Library of Ireland, Ir. 274116 a 1.

    Also: by J. A. Lamont, Presbyterianism in Holywood: Bangor Road Congregation, Bangor: 1967, NLI.
