I did find the 1901 and 1911 and your great-grandfather came from a very large family. Val was not with the family in 1911 and I could not locate him in Co. Dublin.

I will look for any information on William and Charles.

I also looked at the online Irish phonebook http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/   There is a Cosgrave business in Rathfarnham. You may want to contact them. Possibly there is a connection.

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has two baptismal records which may help you. The records are in the Booterstown/Blackrock and Dundrum RC records in Dublin South. There is an 1830 baptismal record for a Charles Cosgrave and an 1835 baptismal record for a William Cosgrave. Roots is a pay site to view the transcription of the church records. Presumably the records will show the names of the parents. I also located the 1870 civil marriage index record for Charles and Ellen. A copy of this record costs around 4 euros from the General Register Office. The record should show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1870. If you plan to get a copy let me know and I will forward instructions.

I had found SO much info with the census, but since it doesn't list maiden names or parents I stalled out. I evntually found Valentine in 1911 by searching for his older brother James... they mis-spelled his name as Valetine.

where did you look up the marriage information? Was that also on www.rootsireland.ie? 

I've been finding marriage searches tricky because the online listings often only include the name of the bride, or the groom, but not both!!

I would LOVE instructions on how to get a marriage certificate. If it's really only 4 euros, I would order ones for all my great-grandparents (which is about where my resarch stops - having parent names would be incredible!)

I use www.findmypast.ie for civil registration index records. I pay an annual fee for access. For marriages they do show the possible spouses on the record. So when I searched for Charles Cosgrave I found the 1870 record with four possible spouses including Ellen Neille. 

Roots Ireland does have the civil records so you may want check and see if they have this marriage. 

Also, just today www.irishgenealogy.ie  has started updating the civil indexes for free. This is an Irish government site.

Here are the instructions for ordering a copy from the General Register Office.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
