Hello
I'm trying to confirm or disprove what I have found.

My g-grandfather William O'Connor 1837-1922 is the son of John O'Connor & Alice McCormick.
His parent's names are from his Australian marriage & death certificates.

I have been unable to find the marriage of John O'Connor & Alice McCormick in Ireland.

William married Jane Bourke 1839-1871 in 1864 and had 3 children.
Alice 1865
Kate  1866
John  1870 my grandfather

On the birth certificate of his daughter Alice 1865 he states his place of birth as Ballyveden, Co Tipperary.  I have attached this certificate.

I have found the following baptism records in Ballyvaden, Killenaule and I'm wondering if this is the same place also if it is the correct parents as their names are listed as John Connors and Alice/Ally Cormack.

Bridget     13 Oct 1835 possibly married David Meara on 29 Jan 1856
William     24 Jan 1837 immigrated to Australia
Mary        29 Nov 1838
Margaret  24 Dec 1840
Mary        17 Dec 1841 immigrated to Australia
James      4 Jun 1844
Alice       24 May 1846 immigrated to Australia
John      13 Aug 1848
Thomas   7 Dec 1851

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Robyn

  • Dear Robyn:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome!

From what you have stated, the births/baptisms that you mention are most likely the same family as the variations in the name (Ally/Alice) are so close.

I did try to see if I could find a marriage record for Alice McCormack and John Connors but I was unable to locate one other than the 1839 record in West Meath.

It is possible that they married in another parish or that the parish registers don't cover the year that they married.

My advice is to continue your research with the Killenaule area to see what other information you can find.

The very best of luck to you with your research.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
