I'm looking for any information on the family of Christopher and Agnes Weir of Lack, who appear to have been members of St. Mary's, Ardess, as that is where my great-great-grandmother Phoebe and all her siblings were  baptized.  Thanks to the Fermanagh-Gold website, I have found the following baptism dates.  Now I am looking for Agnes' maiden name and Christopher and Agnes' marriage. Phoebe married Benjamin Burton Burtchaell, but I don't know whether this occurred in Ireland or Canada.  Christopher appears to  have been a farmer in Lack (per Griffith's) and is not to be confused with the Rev. Christopher Burtchaell.

    No sign of the marriage between Phoebe Weir and Benjamin Burtchaell in the Irish statutory records (which start in April 1845 for non RC marriages) and so I suspect they married outside Ireland.

    I?d be cautious about assuming the Christopher Weir in Lack in 1862 was a farmer. He only had a house, yard and small garden in the town of Lack and the only land I can see was 1 and a quarter acres nearby. Could be a shopkeeper, or artisan with 1 acre. Not really big enough to call it a farm, or him a farmer, even by Irish standards. The revaluation records show that property in Lack village (plot 6) changing to James Weir by 1864 (suggesting Christopher may have died around that time) and then John Irvine purchased it in 1897. Bear in mind that not everyone was listed in Griffiths. Servants, people in shared houses and many people with cabins of too low a value to be recorded did not get listed. And even then, only the head of household was listed. There might have been more than one Christopher Weir in that area.

    I do see a death for a Christopher Weir listed in Irvinestown registration area (which includes Lack) on 11.1.1866, aged 80. You might want to investigate that, as it might resolve whether it was the Lack Weir. You can view the full death cert on-line on the GRONI site for ?2.
