I am looking for information about Thomas Galahan, born about 1820- no idea where. He emigrated to the US about 1836, landing in New York. I have no evidence that he came with other family members. Family lore says that he had training/education as an engineer or surveyor.

He married Ellen Stokesbury while in New York, had a son, William and then the growing family moved around a lot. They lived in Maryland, Conneticut, Iowa, Kansas and settled in Montana to ranch. They had 9 children, seven survived into adulthood. One was killed in a gun-fight in Butte, Montana, several died as young men.

Thomas is my great, great, great grandfather.

Ellen Stokesbury could be from Kilkenny- can't verify.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have been at a brick wall for a long time!

Thanks

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KD5K-R2P You would need dates, places and names to find a marriage record and birth records for the children. A marriage record should show where the couples fathers were from in Ireland.

Then you can check out the Tithe Applotment Books, 1814-1855 for the Townland.

Also the 1901 and 1911 Irish Census returns will show if the family are still living there.
