My grandfather, Patrick Forde, the son of James Forde, a farmer, was born in Ireland in 1865.
My uncle, William Forde (son of Patrick) is listed in the 1911 Irish census as Grand Nephew in the household of Thomas Forde, who is identified as the Head of Family for house number 2 in Greggaunnagroagh (Caltra, Galway). If this relationship is correct then Thomas and James (my great grandfather were brothers. I have been told that Thomas was originally from Castleblakeney and married into the Costello family.
Are there mid-19th century parish records available for Castleblakeney? If so where would they be located?
Are you aware of anyone else who may be doing research on the Forde family in eith Caltra or Castleblakeney.
I will be visiting in Galway city 26-27 April.
Thankyou,

Jim:
Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has RC records for Ahascragh/Killosolan and Caltra parish starting in 1840. Since Castleblakeney is in Killosolan parish I assume those records are included. Roots is a pay site to see the actual data from a transcribed record.
I looked for civil birth index records in the Mountbellew registration district (which includes Killosolan). I found an 1865 record for a Patrick Ford. There was also an 1867 record for a Patrick Joseph Forde.
You can get a copy of this reocrd from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. Instructions are below the index record.

First Name Patrick Last Name Ford Year 1865 Registered Quarter/Year 1865 Registration District Mountbellew Volume 19 Page 399 Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
