Luke Carty

There is a gap in the Killian (Killeroran) RC parish records in the 1830s/1840s so I did not locate a marriage record or baptismal records. I did find a possible record for Luke Carty back in 1809. See below.

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household record does not show a Luke Carty but there was a Margaret Carty in Killeroran. Possibly Luke was deceased by 1855 and the record is for his widow?

The name Logan is possibly Lohan which has has been in the area since at least the 1600s as  grave records for Lohans begin in the 1720s Last year I was involved in the 1st Lohan Gathering in May 2020 - the 2nd will be held shortly 

We have a Lohan FB group as well

The baptism record you attached I have seen before, but wasnt able to confirm it as it gets challenging with all the similairities between the names of parishes, baronys and townlands.....

It would make sense if the locations are realativly close. Luccas or luke Carty dosent appear to be a common name. Access to Griffiths Land Valuation indicates Luke Carty in Rathmactiernan and Sligo Killoran and also Boyle Rosecommon, it appears these areas are somewhat close and could be the same person? 

Also similair in the Sustainability Loan fund New Kilmorre Galway and New Kilroran High School Ballygar. Hoping these are just varients on spelling in the same area.

I was able to find the marraige Feb 1829 record for Luccas Carty and Bridiga Loughan in Diocese of Elphin looks promisng, thank you for the name varients on Logahn.

Luke,  It is my experience in the Lohan research that with most of the immigrants to the United States the name became Logan.  My husbands ancestors connect back to this parish and his are now Logan.  We live in Indiana and there are several families here from that area.  Martin is a great resource and I would support his invitation to join the Lohan cousins Facebook page!

Thank you for that info. When immigrating to Boston, most of our family names all seemed to have change slightlly. Mostly as recorded in vital records. Unable to read or write, im certain the spoken translation had an effect on how it was recorded. I dont have much on the Logan name, at least not here in the US.
