I am looking for any information on Lawrence or Laurence Cunningham and spouse Mary Murphy Cunningham. I believe they are the parents of my Great Grandmother Margaret Cunningham, their names are listed on her death certificate. Margaret was born about 1854/55 in Galway Ireland and passed away in 1916 in the USA. She was married to a John Cunningham. I am not sure if they married in Ireland or in the USA. I have not been able to find a record. She was widowed between 1870/80 according to census records. There is a census record 1870 with her husband John Cunningham, occupation listed as Mule Skinner. Their child Mary Emma Cunningham is my Grandmother and she was born in 1869 in Providence Rhode Island. Thank you for any help.

Since your last message, Find My Past and Ancestry have released an integrated data base containing the records from the RC parish registers. This data base is more comprehensive than what is available on Roots Ireland. I did a search for Margaret Cunningham in Galway records and did not find the record. There are a couple of possibilities. The church of her baptism no longer has records back to 1854-1855 or maybe she was baptized Mary Margaret or with some other first name.
The FMP data base is free at least through tomorrow and Ancestry is free until the end of the month. I suggest that you also go through the records to see if you can find her baptismal record.

The Irish civil registration index on irishgenealogy.ie doesn't show the marriage, which suggests they married in the US.

Thank you both very much for your immediate reply. The suggestion that her name might be Mary Margaret is intriguing. I will give that avenue a try. I can also search in neighboring states for a marriage certificate. Do you know the name of the RC church that she would have been baptized in?

Thank you Roger for the link. I have done some more research on Margaret. All documents have her listed as Margaret J. Cunningham. The 1900 census gives her arrival date as1868 and her marriage date as 1878, could be a transcription error. Is there a web site with passanger lists departing Ireland at that time? I am assuming she keft from Galway. I could search there as well as arrivals in the US.
