Bob:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We have a parish liaison in the general area of Glencoh which is a townland in Kilcummin civil parish. I will send him an e-mail alerting him to your message. I assume you have a genealogy related question(s).

Hi Bob
It would be great if you could provide some further information so that others potentially researching the same family can get in touch with you and/or learn from your information
Best wishes

In the 1901 Census, there were 22 "house numbers" listed in Glencoh. In the 1911 Census, there were 25 house numbers listed. Are these numbers the actual address of the home, or do they represent the order in which the census taker appeared.
If they do represent the actual house address, do the numbers remain the same today? I want to know if I could locate my ancestral homes if I visited.

Bob:
The numbers assigned are the order the RIC constable collected and signed the forms rather than a house address. So you could be house 4 in 1901 and house 17 in 1911 and still live in the same house.

Thank you Roger. I wonder if the homes still stand and if someone living in Glencoh today could identify the families that lived in them in the late 1880s/early 1900s.

Bob:
Good question. Likely a home that was a residence in 1901-1911 may still be there but maybe as a ruin. I have different experiences with my own family. For my one grandmother from Co. Down (born 1890), the cottage is till there and being used by a young family with children. For my grandmother from Co. Roscommon (born 1889), the cottage is in ruins.
Possibly a long time resident of the townland might know which families lived in some of the older houses/ruins. I notice there is a 1960 era home up for sale in Glencoh. http://www.daft.ie/galway/bungalows-for-sale/rosmuc/glencoh-rosmuc-galw… Hopefully Peadar will get in touch.
