Searching for information on David Hoare (Hoar), born County Kerry about 1834 , I think Emlaugh, Dingle, County Kerry. He married Maria Brosnihan 7/2/1867 in Dingle. David's parents were John Hoare & Honore Cahill. Some family information passed down says he was from Ballymore. After their 3rd child, David & Maria moved from unknown to Green Mount, then to John St. where my great grandfather (James Bernard) was born 3/30/1880. David and Maria had 8 children: John (dob 1/7/1868), Michael (dob 4/25/1869), Johanna ( dob 5/15/1871), Thomas (1/27/1873), Patrick (dob 3/30/1874), David (dob 2/12/1876), Edward (dob 3/27/1878) and my great grandfather. Mary Hoar and children Johanna through James immigrated 7/5/1882 from Liverpool to Port of New York on SS City of Richmond. They ended up in New Britain Connecticut. Maria's parents are Michael Brosnihan and Catherine Walsh.

I will be visiting Dingle in June and would love to be able to locate the home they lived in and the church they were married in. The marriage record shows "Dingle Chapel". Any information on possible Hoar family relatives in the area would be an awesome treat as well. Thank you for any help you can pass on to me.

  • Good Afternoon

I have just replied to your message about your Offaly ancestors.

In relation to your Kerry line, as you can see from the link below, Dingle is a Civil Parish in Co. Kerry:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=1115&civilparish=Dingle&citycounty=Kerry

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Dingle begin in 1825. As this is the case, you could check www.familysearch.org which has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland and/or http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ which have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.

I also include a link for Dingle Parish Online for your consideration: http://naomhmuire.wordpress.com/about/genealogyfamily-historystair-chla…

Have you considered using Ancestry.co.uk to search family trees/messageboard for any possible connection to your own ancestor?

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search

  • Thank you very much for both of your replies. I do have all the birth records of David & Maria Hoare's children and their marriage record, but almost all of them just say John St. I have been researching this family for over 20 years so I am aware of many of the links you have posted, I appreciate the suggestions. I will try the link for Dingle Parish online to see what I can find. You help is greatly appreciated!
