My grandfather was Nicholas Fitzgerald, of Aughils, on the Dingle peninsula. I am having difficulty tracing his family because I have found three Nicholas Fitzgeralds born in the village at roughly the same time. I have found church records for the birth of Nicholas Fitzgerald to John Fitzgerald and Ann O'Connor in December 1895, and to James Fitzgerald and Ellen (surname unknown) in December 1892. I also have a 1901 census record showing a Nicholas Fitzgerald as child to James and Mary, giving dob also 1895. They all lived in the same village at the same time it seems! My grandfather emigrated to New Zealand in the 1920s and I have found a passenger list showing a Nicholas Fitzgerald which I believe to be him, departing in February 1922 aged 27. This would make his dob in the 1895/1896 range. His marriage certificate in NZ also tallies with this. How can I work out whether he is the son of John and Ann or James and Mary?! Any help appreciated.

Julie:
I'm not familiar with New Zealand civil records but would his death record show his parents names? Also, do you know sibling names?
