I will be traveling to Ireland for my first time in September. I have located one part of my family.
Patrick Joy and Julia Scannell were married in 1831. When married their address was Douglas. When my ancestor, Mary Joy, was baptised in 1841 they were in Bansha. Mary Joy came to the United States in around 1862, supposedly with an aunt. She ended up in San Francisco and married Thomas Scott, whose family was from the Killarney area, in 1868. Any information is appreciated.

Gwen:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free irish government site which has church records for Co. Kerry (and records for a few other areas). I found the 1831 marriage record and it shows that Patrick was living in Douglas and no location was shown for Julia. They had a son Patrick baptized November 10, 1832 in Bansha. The there was a seven year gap to James October 6, 1839 followed by Mary in 1841 Ellen August 1, 1843 John June 21, 1846 and Maurice May 26, 1849.
Strange that there were no children between Patrick and James. Banshagh and Douglas are about 3 1/2 miles apart. Possibly the Scannells were from Banshagh. The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows Patrick in Banshagh. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/kerry/killorglin.htm
When going through the records, it appears that Patrick Sr. had a brother names James since Patrick and Julia were sponsors for a child of James.
Let me know what questions you have and have a great trip.

Gwen:
There were still three Joy families in Banshagh in the 1901 census. i think one of them was headed by Mary's brother John.

Thank you for the responses. I do think I have found the Scannell family. There was a Jeremiah Scannell as a sponsor in their wedding. He shows up in Griffith's in Douglas. Still can't find Julia Scannell's birth. We will visit both the Douglas area and Banshagh area as seen in Griffith's. The other family I am looking for is said to be from the Killarney area but Idon't know the parish. Michael Scott and Julia Healy were married sometime around 1830. They went to Boston ,MA around 1857, Using the church records and Griffith's I haven't been able to find them.
THANK YOU, AGAIN.
