Hello,
I am researching John Shea and Catherine Early , (3rd great grandfather and grandmother). Family members whom have passed on did state that they both were born in County Kerry Ireland and married there. They immigrated, (no choice of there own) to New Brunswick about 1828- 1830. Thier son Timothy was born in 1831 St. John, New Brunswick and Baptised there in 1832, St. Malachy's Church. Due to a great fire there all records where distroyed.
Also they had another son named Ambrose (but went by the name of Patrick) Shea born in New Brunswick. A daughter Mary Ann born in Boston, MA.
Also, I am trying to find travel records from Kerry to Newfoundland Area (Brunswick, Nova Scotia). The family story is they where told to leave by the landlords at that time and sent to Newfoundland Area. If there are area's in which I could research this that would be so helpful in my search.
They moved to Boston, MA about 1836 which was there final destination, moving between South Boston, Somerville and Cambridge MA. I am wondering if there would be any marriage and/or birth records for John Shea (O'Shea) and Catherine Early for about (birth )1805 - 1815, marriage about 1825- 1830 in this parish. I have been told that Early is a very old name within County Kerry.
I am new to this website and not sure how to go about this? I can tell you that John did have a sister named Mary of which I found in US Census records.
Any help?
Thank you

Dear Kathy, My guess is that you have already found that there are few by the name Early in Kerry records http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.jsp?namefm=&namel=early&exact=&name2fm=&name2l=&location=&dd=&mm=&yy=&diocese=KERRY+(RC)&parish=¢ury=&decade=&sort=&pageSize=100&ddB=&mmB=&yyB=&ddM=&mmM=&yyM=&ddD=&mmD=&yyD=&locationB=&locationM=&locationD=&member0=&member1=&member2=&member3=&member4=&member5=&member6=&member7=&member8=&member9=&namef0=&namef1=&namef2=&namef3=&namef4=&namef5=&namef6=&namef7=&namef8=&namef9=&namel0=&namel1=&namel2=&namel3=&namel4=&namel5=&namel6=&namel7=&namel8=&namel9=&keyword=&submit=Search
Similarly for Griffith's Valuation (1850)

I have also found the name spelled Earley. As you know Shea and O'Shea are very common names.
Records for the time period of John and Catherine's births & marriage are sparse.
Have you a particular reason for posting to this parish Kathy? Is there a gravestone/obituary/memorial card/union or other membership which names a birthplace for either of them. Have they naturalisation records which name a parent or a place? have you found them in a Census sharing a house with another Irish family whose homeplace you can identify?
Is Timothy's birth recorded in any of these records https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1929956

Do let me know if you have any further information that might assist us in nailing down a smaller geographical area in Kerry.

Thank you for all the information. I never thought of researching others that lived with them from the census. The census and baptismal records show some of the same names, Sullivan, Reilly and O'Connell. Recently I was told from a researcher here in the US, that the area that they lived in, boston, was called Kerry's Corner, and that all that lived there were from Sneem, County Kerry.County Kerry has been confirmed from family members, Timothy's grandchildren, they have also stated that his(John Shea, Timothy's father) lands where taken away from him and he was sent to New Brunswick, and they forced him to remove the O from O'Shea, which was very common. Would you happen to know of any parish I may try in Sneem?
I did find John Shea's death record all that is listed in born in Ireland, mother's name Julia.
I found Timothy Birth Record in the Drouin Collection, along with his brother's and his father's second marriage record. It seems that his mother Catherine, passed away between 1831 and 1837. Researchers from New Brunswick said that during that time period a great sickness took a lot of lives, and that the great fire destroyed a lot of the records there.
Again, thank you so much for your help
God Bless

Hi Kathleen,
these are Shea Church records from Sneem
I have had no luck with John Shea with a mother Julia so far. But in the meantime do check out the above link and see if anything pops. John's mom could have been Mary Julia known as Julia. I'll need to think about this some more.

Thank you for the references above, but, the time period Im looking for there just doesn't seem to be any records (1810-1830),
Anyway I think I am going to have to rely on the information I recieved from a genologist here in the states, "that anyone whom lived in the area cambridge called kerry's corner was from Sneem". Thank you for your assistance, you have been very helpful in my search. God Bless
