I have traced my ancestors back to Timothy Houlihan, died September 1890 in Listowel and his wife Margaret Houlihan (nee Cunningham) died June 1904 in Listowel.
could you please advise which cemetery they are buried in and if there are any descendants of Timothy & Margaret Houlihan who would like to meet with me and my wife when we visit later this month (June) i would like to hear back from them.
we leave here (Australia) for Ireland on 13 June staying in Dublin until monday 17 June to drive around Ireland so maybe in Listowel by the following weekend.
My Great grandfather left Ireland in abt 1875 for Australia, my Grandfather Leo was only 10 years old when he passed away so not much history was passed down to my father nor to me so i am the first to try and trace our ancestors back to Ireland.
I can be contacted on thehoulies@westnet.com.au or at work michael@jaycoaw.com.au

Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for your message. I am very sorry for the delay in responding to you. Are you still in Ireland? If so here are some places where you may be able to get some assistance:
Kerry County Library in Tralee-the local studies department here is very good and may be able to advise you:
http://www.kerrylibrary.ie/local.asp
Listowel Parish, the local priest may be able to help you. However it may be a good idea to contact them beforehand to arrange an appointment:

If you are going to be in Dublin again the National Library offer a free genealogy advice service to anyone just starting out on their family history:
http://www.nli.ie/en/genealogy-advisory-service.aspx
Also, church records from Co. Kerry have been uploaded to http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ free of charge.
Another useful website is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Listowel parish follow this link:
I hope some of this is helpful and not too late. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
