Hi! I am in Dublin visiting from USA and hoping to get some ancestral information regarding the Stack family, that resided in County Kerry in 15th/16th Century, until land was taken over by planters from England (Then they moved to other counties).
The background is:
The Stacks were Nomans, de Staque. A father, Barthalomew, A. Stack of County Claire, traced the family origin to the Germanic tribes, circa 490. Evenually they migrated to Caen, Normandy, circa 600, where the name became de Staque. The family maintained a castle at Caen, with a small army of knights, ruled the surrounding territory. The family was titled and probaby ruled a dukedom.
The last record of a Stack burial, in Caen, dates to 1087. The Stacks came over to Englad with William the Conqueror. They then came to Ireland in the Ango-Norman invasion, and were given great amounts of land in County Kerry for their service to the Norman King.
James Stack - born in Ireland, married Margaret Fallis (or Wallis).. HIs son,Simon Stack (born 1829/1830) married Julia Leahy,(born 1822/1823) in Tipperary. They married in USA 1851-1855 and had 9 children.

Hi Anne. Simon and Julia Leahy Stack are my great great grandparents. Julia's parents were Timothy Leahy and Bridget Kelly. Simon and Julia Stack are buried in Mt. Morris, MI at the Calvary Cemetery next to the Catholic Church. Many of our relatives are buried there. My link is my dad Daniel Close, his father John Close, his father William Close. William was married to Margaret Stack. Margaret's parents were Simon and Julia Leahy Stack. I do have a nice picture of them. I have a tree listed under Cunningham/Close family on Ancestry.com. I could also email you the picture if you would like to see it. Simon Stack was baptized in Ballingarry Parish, County Tipperary, Ireland. Hope to hear from you. Kelly Close Cunningham

Hello, I am Robert Walsh Fister from central Ky. My great Granmother is Mary Stack born 1832 in Listowel to Richard or could be James Stack and Ellen Shanahan. Richard must have died as Ellen Shanahan married a Mr George Gregory. Mary came to the USA thru New Orleans on Feb 27 1852 with her half brother Richard Gregory. They traveled to Paris Ky where Mary's mother Ellen was already in the Paris Ky area. Mary married Patrick Walsh in Paris Ky, Patrick is the son of John Walsh from NewtownSandes Kerry. Patrick and John came to Ky about 1849. Patrick died in 1896 in Ky. Patrick and his wife Mary Stack are said to have had 13 children. One of their sons named Robert Patrick Walsh is my grandfather and became a prominent clothier in Mt Sterling and Paris Ky. I have been following events and many other things from Kerry for many years, My oldest son and I were coming to Ireland in May but had to cancel because of the Virus. Good hunting to everyone as Family from the era of my Irish family are very hard to find.
Thank You, Robert Patrick Walsh Fister

Not sure if it's a direct relation but I can trace my lineage precisely to Co Kerry.
My great, great Grandmother was Julia Stack (Born: December 6, 1873 Mt Forrest, Ontario, Canada) whom married Charles Patrick Payment (where a place name with the name Payment still stands as a reminder of a town on Sugar Island beside Sault Ste. Marie, MI) Julia V. Stack's father was Patrick Stack (Birth:17 Mar 1840 Killarney, Kerry, Ireland Death:27 JAN 1922 Mount Forest, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada). Patrick Stack's father was John Stack Sr (BIRTH 1805 • County Kerry, Ireland DEATH 6 DECEMBER 1863 • Arthur Twp., Wellington North, District Peel, Ontario, Canada). John Stack Sr's father seems to be; Robert Stack 1774 (married Ellen Keadahan Caddigan ) B: Birth1774 • Co. Kerry, Ireland D:Death Bef. 1875 • Ireland. Robert Stack's father seems to be: Richard Rickard Stack BIRTH 1750 • County Kerry, Ireland. In with there is a will related to land on Ancestry DNA, but with their exorbitant prices I refuse to pay it- which unfortunately means I don't have more access to validate things. But this is what I have.
Stack Crest has been added to the older generations making me think it is a direct lineage. A grandaughter of Robert Stack apparently married a family in Minnesota- my Ancestry DNA show random matches to people in minnesota...perhaps that's why.
These are all on my family tree, I'd be happy to screenshot it if you don't have a paid profile. Reach me at: Paulina Payment on facebook and just mention / link this article if you happen to return to this site sometime. I can connect you with my cousin who is better equipped financially and has a higher interested in accuracy and detail which I don't have the time for for these in-depth looks deeper.
I am Irish, German, and English- with a touch of welsh and nordic: Norway and Sweden. By 6th generations I believe you lose anything that would show up in your dna results which is why I lack french- though before my DNA results were refined I did have france listed. I am on AncestryDNA. Ancestry DNA still matches me to some distant ancestors in England.
Richard/Rickard Stack is included in the Irish Records Extraction Database, which may be of use to you if we're related/of direct lineage.
Serendipity brought me to land myself by happenstance in Killorglin co Kerry after a trip i took to celebrate graduating from university. There I stumbled across an old closed down film store under the name of Stack and got to talking to some locals in the area who informed me that they, too, had moved on.
Recent research informed me that the Stacks held a seat in Co Kerry, overseeing several (6?) towns where one had a nickname of Stackstown. Unfortunately, because they supported Ireland and fought against the English, they ended up having their lands and co seat taken from them. From there they dispersed. I imagine this is why Julia and her parents came to south eastern Canada.
Canada is a highly common route for many Irish folks to come through during the migrations.
Good luck!
