I am trying to come up with any information on a Hickey family from County Kerry.  The gravestone in Randolph, MA is of John and Hanora (however, I believe this is a misspelling and the name is Honora) both born in Lisheennacannina in County Kerry.  The gravestone also lists 2 deceased children, Johanna and Cornelius.  I'm visiting Cork and Kerry in March, 2015.  Any help is appreciated.

  • Hello Patricia maybe you can post some more information on John & Honora i.e date of births , when they immigrated, where they married Ireland or USA- when they died. It may be possible to acquire some information if you can post the above . Regards Frances

  • Patricia:

The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Molahiffe civil parish only shows a John Hickey in Ballyfinnane townland. No Hickeys in Lisheenacannina.

Also no Hickeys in the 1901  census for Lisheennacannina.

  • I will have to get more information from my remaining aunt.  John and Honora Hickey were both born around 1800 and the gravestone does mention Lisheennacannina, although the stone (hard to read) has this misspelled as Liisheennaghnina.  I have also heard that they were both Hickeys.  I'll work on getting better dates.  Thank you.

  • After speaking with family I learned that Hanorah was actually a Sullivan from Lisheennacannina, County Kerry.  She married a John Hickey from County Limerick.  What was confusing me is that I have Sullivan on both my father's mother and father's side of the family.  So it wasn't Hickey from Lishneennacannina I was trying to find, but a Sullivan. I actually did go to Ireland in March and found the townland of Lishneennacannia.  I was there with my children and their spouses and we had a wonderful, wonderful time.  We all felt such a deep and profound connection.  We cannot wait to return.
