My great grandmother Julia DOOLING along with Patrick DOOLING and Patrick BREEN came to the U.S. about 1872. Irish records online have placed all three in County Kerry. Julia was baptized in Ballylongford in 1854, daughter of John DOOLING and Julia MCELLISTRUM. Patrick DOOLING was baptized 1857 in Bohereens, Firies, son of Laurence DOOLING and Catherine CONNOR. Patrick BREEN was baptized 1852 in Keelties, Firies, son of James BREEN and Mary QUICK. I'm trying to find out more information about all three families. I know Julia's siblings from Kerry records online. I am also looking for information on the MCELLISTRUM family. Any help is appreciated, Cindy Barnhart, Texas.

Hi Cindy,
They are some unusual surnames. Have you check the combination of names on the Irish Times ancestor page? You can information about the frequency of the name in the mid-19th century and any other variant spellings of the name here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/
Could you please post your message on the following parish pages: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/molahiffe-kerry (Bohereens) and http://www.irelandxo.com/group/kilnanare-kerry (Keelties).
There are Roman Catholic church records available for Ballylongford. These date from 1823 for baptismal records and 1826 for marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4284. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.
There are Roman Catholic church records available for Molahiff. These date from 1830 for both baptismal and marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4267. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.
Do you know much about their emigration? Dates, the reason why they left, etc? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool), this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38). Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS).
There is a book you might be interested in by Michael O'Connor called 'Tracing your Kerry Ancestors', 1994.
