On August 31, 1836, Honoria Long was baptized at St. John's Church in Causeway...her parents were John Long an Ellen McCarthy from Dromartin(sp?) which is between Ballyduff and Causeway....

In both the 1901 and 1911 census records for Dromartin there lived a father and son both named John Long.....it is my belief that the elder John Long was a brother to Honoria Long who was one of my great great grandmothers....However, when I looked for a baptismal record for John Long and a marriage record for Honoria's parents John Long and Ellen McCarthy, I could find neither...

I did find on the irishgenealogy site a marriage for a John Long and Ellen Murphy in February 1832 AND I found a baptismal record for John Long( townland listed as Dromatuir) on June 20, 1833 with parents John Long and Ellen Murphy...

I'm wondering if someone with access to the actual Church records in Causeway could examine those records with the idea that Murphy and McCarthy look fairly similar especially given the handwriting in those days....I'd like to try to prove that John Long and Honoria Long were indeed siblings whose family lived in Dromartin...

Also, I'd like to determine if there is a familial connection between the Long family and an Enright family also from Dromartin....when the younger John Long died, it apears that his property passed to an Enright family and I wonder if they were related to me as well....

As you have exhausted many of the online sources I think your exercise in information gathering is a good one. Unfortunately, we do not yet have a volunteer in St. John?s, Kerry. I believe that your best course of action, as with my own family research, is to collect as much information as possible with a view to linking names over time. In particular, sponsors, witnesses and details from the Tithes and Griffith?s Valuation are vital:

    Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1837): http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp

    Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864): http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search
