I am researching the marriage of James Quinlan to Johanna Hanlon 29 Sept 1860 . They listed the parish as Causeway? They both came from Rattoo.  The priest was Rev J Enright. The witness was Michael Quinlan. I have where they lived in Washington DC  and am trying to find out when and where they died. Thier daughter Julia Quinlan married my Great Uncle John T Heffernan in Washington DC in 1902. If anyone needs help looking up genealogy stuff around the Davenport Iowa area, let me know at email rockislandfred@gmail.com

More info 7 June 2013; The children of James Quinlan and Johanna Hanlon were born around Acres near Dingle but the records are in Causeway parish near Ballyduff:

Catherine born 18 Sep 1861, William about 1869, Elizabeth born 6 Jan 1871, John born 15 May 1873, Johanna born 10 Oct 1875, Mary born unknown, James born 27 Jan 1880, Julia born 8 Aug 1883.

I do not know if the parents came over but I have everybody but Elizabeth Quinlan accounted for in Washington DC at one time or another

    Causeway is a town in the parish of Killury which neighbours Ratoo.

    Perhaps Causeway was the nearest church where they could get married?

     

     

    Also, Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864. This means that if James and Johanna did remain in Ireland and died here there would be a record of it in civil records. . Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

  • Hi Fred?

    I was browsing on the Rattoo site and noticed your message. My mother was a Hanlon and I believe Johanna may be my mum's gggrandfathers daughter (who was Gobinet Burns). I'd be interested in Johanna's emigration and story in the USA if you have any further details. I'll check to see if my instinct is right but I remember the Quinlan name coming up previously.

  • I've just checked the Kerry records and only local birth of James Quinlan and Joanna (Burns) is James Quinlan of Acres on 1/2/1880 witness Michael Hanlon so I guess they must have been in Kerry in 1880 at least. If you are interested I could list up Joanna's mum and dad's family.
