I'm seeking, please, more information on Timothy Galvin (1851-1927) my Great Grandfather who owned both The Royal Valentia Hotel (from around the 1880's) and The Bay View Hotel Waterville (which he built around 1889 I believe).
I have all that the 1901 and 1911 Census's can give me plus the help of the Museum in Knightstown. I know he is laid to rest in the Mausoleum at Derrynane (but his stone is not visible~"inside"?). I also have a few newspaper "cuttings" mentioning him.
However I cannot trace his ancestry or his birth, his marriage (to Bridget Anne Horan) or (with one exception, his nephew Timothy Galvin of Castlecove who died in 1964) the history of his nine children and their families.
Clearly I have a lot more than I can mention in this brief memo and he seems to have been well known in the Irish Hotel and Tourism business but I lack any real background information.
I would be most grateful for any information provided.
Patrick Galvin Sunderland.

Hi Patrick,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
In the meantime, it may be an idea to contact the Local Studies Department of Kerry CO. Library to see if they can assist or advise you in any way. As Timothy would have been quite prominent in the area they may have some resources that would help you. Here is a link to their webpage:http://www.kerrylibrary.ie/local.asp
Also, with regards to his ancestry family, did you know that church records from Co. Kerry are available online free of charge at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
Another useful website is the Irish Times where they show a map of the Catholic parishes in Kerry. If you click on each parish it will show what records are available and also where there are copies available. Follow this link:

Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Irish Genealogy Tool kit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/
Genealogy links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/kerry/index.html

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

I'm very sorry but I never saw your reply at the time. I don't know why.
It is very helpful and I have in any case progressed my research so that I've now registered the Kilcrohane Parish where he is buried with his Parents and Siblings.
Many Thanks.
Patrick.
