Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking for information on Michael in church records? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be helpful is the irishtimes where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Castlecomer parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records, check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
You could also try searching for him in Griffith's Valuation. This was a property Valuation that was carried out in Ireland between 1848-1864. If you cannot find him, try searching for his father/mother. You can search it here:
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
You could also check for his parents in the earlier survey called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838), found here:
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
Have you tried looking into his emigration? Generally, more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. The University of Woolongong has produced, on microfiche, a complete index and transcript of all information concerning immigrants of Irish origin recorded on ships' passenger lists between 1848 and 1867. The Public Record Office of Victoria has good online databases of settlers at www.prov.vic.gov.au Otherwise, other records may be found in the Colonial Office Papers of the UK National Archives, class reference CO 201.
Some other websites which may be useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/

I hope that this helps. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
