Hi Col, thanks very much for taking the time to find that valuable piece of information as it's something that I have never seen before.

James Crew (junior) baptism on the 14th November 1868 and his parents wedding on the 15th November 1868 must of been the talk of the Thomastown wash house at the time. I wonder what happened to him as I have never come across him before so maybe he died as a child.

As a matter of interest, James Crew (born abt 1809) died in Inistioge in 1876 aged 66 and Bridget married  James Rush (a tailor) in 1877. They had a son called James Rush (junior) in1878 and then James Rush (senior) died in 1880 aged 70.

Bridget Crewe (a widow, born in New Ross) is then discovered with her four daughters living in Manchester on the 1891 census along with her son James Crewe aged 12 years, an apprentice barber. It appears to me that James Rush (junior) became James Crewe unless something new turns up.

My wife's grandmother was born in 1871 in a tiny townland just a mile or two from Inistiogue; we visit there for a month every year and will be there on Aug. 31.

Hi Richard, we live in Queensland Australia so the only chance that I have of seeing the area is via Google Earth. It looks like it's a lovely place and it's on the top my bucket list, as soon as we win the lottery. I sometimes wonder why Bridget moved from the quite of the countryside to industrial Manchester but with four children to support all under the age of 10 then she had to do what she thought was best. Life was so different 150 years ago and I do wonder if she left the area with the help of the local poor council, she must of had a very hard life.

I hope that you have a great holiday over there Richard, where are you from by the way.

Hi Richard, thanks for sharing that drone footage, I thought that I had seen all the Inistioge clips on You Tube but thats the first time that I have seen that one and I really enjoyed it. If you happen to get any spare time with your historian friends then I would really appreciate it if you could ask them how I can locate the birth place of James Crew (born abt 1809/10). I have a strong feeling that James and Bridget had both been married before as I have in my possesion a very poor copy of a badly water damaged court document from the court in Thomastown dated 4th June 1861. It states (court case number 18) that on 22nd May 1861 James and Zillah Crew of Inistioge had filed a complaint against John and Joanna Dwyer of Inistioge for stealing a petty coat belonging to Zillah which she later later saw hanging on Joanna Dwyer's washing line. On the next line it says (court case number 19) John and Joanna Dwyer had filed a complaint against Zillah for trespassing on their property.

I can't work out what the out come of this court case was as the sentence is illegible due to age and water damage but it has me wondering if Zillah was James first wife, his daughter or his mother as I can't find any other mention of her anywhere.    Thanks again Richard and have a great holiday,

Steve: Here is the National Archives of Ireland website with a link to St Columbkille's Catholic church baptisms in Inistiogue from December 1810. You can scan for your ancestor,.....it's tedious work. Sometimes it lists the resident townland of one of the parents or godparents. Good luck.

Many thanks R.J.C. as you said it's tedious work but it's very interesting. It's like gold mining, you always think that you going to find a nugget on the next page but after two hours I think that my eyes need a rest. I shall carry on tomorrow and I will let you know if I strike it lucky.
