he married Catherine James at Newcross, Ireland. Then they emigrated to Victoria Australia around the 1850's.

Do you have the parents names for Michael? They are so many Michael Murphys that you need more info to confirm any record located.
Where is Newcross? Is it New Ross in Wexford by any chance?

Sorry don't know parents names. Yes they were married at Newross 19 feb 1856. His wife Catherine Murphy nee James was born in Killan, County Kilkenny, Ireland in 1833. Their first child Maria was also born in 1856 the year of their marriage. On birth of 4th child in 1866 in Victoria, Australia father age 30 mother 33. Therefore Michael Murphy was born 1836 and wife Catherine nee James 1833. Thanks Roger for your reply.
