Hi - looking for any record of the Gorman family in Borris. My GGGFather was John Gorman who married Mary Brophy. They lived in Ballymeelish and had several children - including Mary, Catherine and John. The family emigrated to Manchester UK in the 1850s.
Kind regards, Michael Gorman

Welcome to ireland Reaching Out!
I was unable to locate the marriage record but did find six baptismal records on Roots Ireland Margaret 1842 Denis 1846 Mary 1848 (died young?) Mary 1850 John 1853 Michael 1860 All in Borris in Ossory.
It is possible there are more so I would check the register. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0972 Records start in 1840 so likely John and Mary were married before records started.
I printed out the transcription of the baptismal record for the youngest child born in Ireland so it is likely the family did not leave for Manchester until at least 1861.
Ballymeelish townland is in Skirk civil parish and the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows John Gorman in Ballymeelish. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/laois/skirk.htm
Let me know what questions you have.
