My ggrandfather Bernard Curran born c.1827 listed "Stradryan Rossinver Leitrim Ireland -  arrived 1848 aboard West Point" as where he was from in the records of NYC's Emmigrant Savings Bank.  I found a "Bryan" Curran on passenger list of the West Point arriving in NYC in March 1848.  He gave his age as 20 and occupation as shoemaker.  I think this must be him as Bernard had a shoemaking business in NYC for many years.  He married Bridget McKenna (Co. Kerry) in NYC and they had 8 children.  Any information about his family in Leitrim (names of parents, siblings, Roman Catholic baptism, marriage records etc..) is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Hi Liz

I couldn't find a birth/baptism record for Bernard Curran in Leitrim on www.rootsireland.ie/ but I did find 1 in county Down in 1827

  • Hi Col,
Thank you for your response.  I went ahead and purchased this baptism record from rootsireland, but can't be sure it's him.  His father is also Bernard & his mother is Mary Curran (with notation that father & mother have same surname.) Parish is Newry.  Denomination is RC. Sponsers are Francis McNally & Elizabeth Morgan.  I checked rootsireland for marriage records for these parents, but no record. My Bernard did name is first child Mary, but that's the only connection so far.   Any suggestions are appreciated.  Liz
