HI: I am looking for information on Michael Williams, b. ca. 1761 in LImerick, m. Bridget Clancy before 1811, came to Canada about 1837. Bridget was born about 1759 in Ardcanny, Pallaskenry. They had at least three children: (1) Bridget, b ca. 1811 and came to Canada before 1835; (2) Michael who settled in Pennsylvania; and (3) James, b ca. 1814. James married Mary Hastings,( b. ca. 1812) and had a son Michael, born in LImerick 1836, before they came to Canada in 1837. All were Roman Catholic. I would also appreciate more information on Ardcanny and Pallaskenry if possible. Thanks.

Good Afternoon
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.
As you can see from the link below, Ardcanny is a Civil Parish in Limerick:
Pallaskenry is a townland in the Civil Parish of Chapelrussell:
Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Kildimo and Castlerussell begin in 1831 for baptisms and 1851 for marriages.
Even though it seems that these parish records do not start early enough, it would be a good idea to search the sites listed below anyway, in case you are incorrect in relation to their place of birth/townland of origin. Limerick Genealogy also has an interesting website: http://www.limerickgenealogy.com/sources.php
As an aside you could also check the Iirsh Newspaper Archive for any recorded instance of your ancestor's name: http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/ in the local news
Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best of luck with your search

Hi Clare: Thanks for explaining the parish divisions -- it definitely helps.
Just wanted to let you know that I found James and Mary Hastings marriage record (1835), as well as their son Michael's baptism (1835) in Kildimo parish records -- YEAH!!
I'm not sure where to go next to find out about their parents, but I'll keep looking.
Thanks so much for your help.MRaycroft

Brilliant - sometimes things pop up when you keep digging!
Delighted with that. Have you checked for siblings of Michael?Clare

HI Clare: Yes, I did check for siblings, but it seems that they came to Canada while Michael was still an infant and his siblings were born here.
I also checked the Tithe Aplottment books and found a Michael Williams in Curraheen -- I think that it was for 1825, so I'm guessing that's the father/grandfather. It's the only one I can find. Not sure where to go with that into.

Dear Mary
You may find that you will have to go on an information gathering exercise. Keep a record of anything you find like the details of Michael Wiliams above who you think might be relevant. It may be that there are sources yet to be made available online that could be useful in the future. Sometimes the newspaper archives are a great source too - in this country and in the newly adopted home.
The following sites are great for keeping up to date on what sources are newly available:
Clare Santry Blog: http://www.irishgenealogynews.com/
Irish Genealogical Research Society:

Best wishes
