I am a descendant of Fedamore, Limerick Shaughnessy's. My great grandfather, Patrick Shaughnessy married Katherine Ryan. I think they were married in Croom. They emigrated to the US in 1874 and settled in Warsaw, Wyoming County, New York. They were farmers. I believe Patrick's parents were Edmund Shaughnessy and Bridget Hannon. They had 7/8 children. I know that James also emigrated and had a farm in Warsaw, near his brother's farm. I have a lot of information about the family in the US but not much in Ireland. That is now my quest....to find more information and perhaps some relatives in Ireland descended from Edmund and Bridgett.

Here are two pictures found in the old farmhouse. They could be Patrick and Katherine but not sure.

I suggest you try the following free sites for Shaughnessy in Limerick
Tithe Applotments (1823-38) Irish Censuses (click on 1901 & 1911 & use the drop down arrow for the earlier years
Griffiths Valuation 1848-64;
I couldn't find any Shaughnessys in the Irish phone book in Fedamore but you migth want to double-check and drop some a line if you find any.

I found a Thomas Shaughnessy in the 1911 census who was the right age living in the county of Limerick. He was a widower with 2 children. Possibly my great grandfather's brother?
Also found Edmund Shaughnessy in Griffiths. Looks as though he was a landowner. Wonder if that is my great grandfather's father?

Kathy,
you should probably order the certs outlined above - that would give you a bit more detail such as townland etc. and then you should be able to accurately make the connection with the census. The certs can be ordered online at gro.ie or I could order them locally (I live in Limerick) for you. Any queries you can email me at jimvaughan@eircom.net
