Dear Emma Carty, I'm new to Irelandxo and was exploring, when I came across your entry. My Sheehan family was from Feenagh, Kilmeedy, Broadford, Dromcolligher. I remember my uncle, Michael Sheehan, was friends for much of his life with Mick Barry who lived near our family.

Our family lived at Ahadagh and Avaheen, Feenagh on the road out towards Dromcolligher. Mick Barry lived a bit closer to 'Drom' than my family and was a neighbour to my Uncle Mossie Sheehan at Avaheen. One of the younger Barry boys was a friend of my cousins and during my annual holidays in Feenagh (from my home in the UK) we all used to play together. I can't recall the young Barry's Christian name but I recall he had dark red (auburn) hair. I do have a photo of Mick Barry with my Uncle Michael Sheehan. Sorry to be a bit vague but it was 60 years ago.

By coincidence, I also have Carty in my family tree, although I think that was from ancestors in the Toomard area, Galway.

Hi I am looking for information about Mary Jane Barry.

Her death certificate suggests she came to Australia in 1849 and that she was born in Limerick.  Her parents are listed as John, a farmer, and Jane.

There is a Mary Jane Barry on the "Nelson" arriving in Australia in November 1849 aged 22.  She was an assisted immigrant.  This is consistent with the cemetery details which suggests she was born in 1827.

In May 1853 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, she married a John Thomas Mulligan at St Mary's Catholic Church.

Any information would be appreciated.

Hanora Barry married John or James Fitzgibbon in 1824. He had moved to Cloncagh parish after his first wifre died. He may have moved again when he married Hanora Barry. Relatives in Feenagh/Kilmeedy and Mahoonagh. Hanora Barry died in 1845. My ggg grandmother.
